Furniture + Equipment Weight Capacity Labeling

The purpose of these labels is to provide staff, administrators, and patients with access to and knowledge of safe and appropriate equipment for body weight within hospital and health care settings. These labels are the result of collaborations with researchers, practitioners, administrators and patients and are based on the best evidence available. The labels were designed to be discrete,
respect the dignity of all individuals, and to help facilitate a safe environment through the application of labels with accurate weight capacity information.

Please note that it is the responsibility of your institution to determine the weight capacity of each piece of equipment (i.e. waiting room chairs, hospital beds, wheelchairs, etc.).

*113kg was chosen as the starting point for the minimum requirement as that is the typical weight capacity of regular/commonly used chairs in waiting rooms and sitting at bedsides or in cafeterias.
